LG Electronics Wins Top Accolades in Global red dot design awards

LG Corporate Design Center has been named as “Design Team of the Year 2006” by red dot design award.
The “Design Team Of The Year” title is highly respected within the profession and is well known throughout the world. It is awarded annually by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen to international design teams which continuously produce creative design work and set new standards in design through their innovation. Other past winners include Apple, Adidas, Mercedes-Benz, Nokia, Audi and Sony.

LG Electronics (LG), a leader in consumer electronics and mobile communications, is the first-ever company making a full range of electronics products and only the second-ever design department of an Asian company to win the “Design Team of the Year” Award.

The “red dot award: design concept 2006” has been also been awarded to LG ‘e-book’ ­ a fuel-cell powered and eco-friendly notebook ­for highest design quality. LG Electronics’ DDM design research institute director, Vice President Shim Jae Jin, explained, “The design concept award presented to LG is an affirmation of creative strengths, and LG being in-tune with the digital age and environment.” He went on to emphasize, “The LG notebook swept the best awards not only in product design but also in the concept category, a firm endorsement of LG as a top design leader.”

Earlier this year LG broke industry records winning in 20 categories at the reddot design awards and 11 categories at the prestigious iF Design Awards. Some products that propelled the company to the top were its Wall-mounted projector (AN110), Dual-core widescreen notebook PC (T1), 42-inch Time Machine plasma TV (42PC1RR), front-loading Steam washing machine<>, robotic vacuum cleaner and Chocolate phone, etc.
The Wall-mounted projector and Dual-core widescreen notebook PC did especially well, winning reddot’s ‘Best of the Best’ design award. The “Best of the Best” are awarded to only three products and LG has won two of them.
